About Us
North Haven Orchard and Cidery produces APPLE CIDER VINEGAR. Our apple cider vinegar is made from a variety of apples, grown on our farm, in North Cowichan. Our apple cider vinegar is, unpasteurized, unfiltered, with the “mother”, and with no added sugar, or coloring. We pick, crush, and press the apples, collecting the juice which is fermented to produce hard cider. After six to eight weeks the hard cider is racked into carboys to mature for several months before we add the ‘mother” to produce our apple cider vinegar. Apple Cider Vinegar Facts: Several scientific studies have reported the consumption of apple cider vinegar, before a high carb meal, significantly reduces blood sugar levels and prevents spikes in blood sugar, by slowing the conversion of carbs to sugar, resulting in a more level concentration of sugar in the blood. Two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar mixed with a few ounces of water should be consumed right before eating. This has been shown to be effective with high carb meals, but not low carb or high fiber meals. Animal studies have shown apple cider vinegar reduces triglyceride and cholesterol levels. Apple cider vinegar contains polyphenol antioxidants, which may improve blood, prevent blood clots and reduce the risk of heart disease. It has been reported that taking apple cider vinegar and honey daily can reduce the pain of arthritis. Apple Cider Vinegar Recipes: As an alternative to hot chocolate or sugary tea, mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon of honey, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice in 12 oz of hot water, sprinkle a teaspoon of cinnamon and stir

Practices
We have a small 3.3 acre parcel of land, on Herd Road. We grow apples, pears, plums, figs, quince and a variety of soft fruits and herbs. We do not use harsh chemical sprays, we manage pest control by using "Safer's BKT Biological Insecticide, which is approved for use by Organic farmers. We spray with BKT after leaf drop, before the development of the fruit.
